The Final Piece of the Puzzle: Integrative Care for Marin’s Older Adults

We are thrilled to announce the opening of Marin Community Clinics’ newest location at the Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus in downtown San Rafael. This milestone marks a significant step in expanding access to essential healthcare services for our community, acting as the final puzzle piece for Vivalon’s decade-long vision of integrated care.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on October 9, 2024, to commemorate the grand opening of the clinic, which officially opened its doors on September 4. The clinic will serve the growing needs of adults aged 62 and older who live at the Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus, as well as other Marin County residents, including children and San Rafael’s homeless population.

The clinic is designed to address the pressing healthcare needs of low-income adults and older adults in the area. Dr. Nelson Branco, chair of Marin Community Clinics’ Board of Directors, shared, “Increasing access to care is one of the hallmarks of our mission. Even today, there is a tremendous unmet need in Marin, and the clinic will go a long way toward addressing this need.”

The opening of this new clinic also marks the completion of the Vivalon Healthy Aging Campus project, which integrates healthcare services with 66 units of 100% affordable housing for older adults, 50 program offerings per month to foster social connection, and now, an on-campus clinic to finalize the vision of integrated health. The campus is designed to meet the social and medical needs of Marin County’s older residents, offering a fully integrated approach to healthy aging.

“We are proud of the work we’ve done to create a community that addresses the social determinants of health for older adults,” said Joe O’Hehir, interim CEO of Vivalon. “Our partnerships with Marin Community Clinics and Eden Housing have brought our vision to life, providing a model of care that integrates healthcare, affordable housing, and social engagement for older adults across Marin County.”

As the population of Marin ages, the demand for healthcare services and social connection will only grow. In fact, by 2030, one-third of Marin County’s population will be 60 years or older. This new clinic is a crucial step toward meeting that demand and ensuring that all community members, especially our most vulnerable, have access to the care they need.

The clinic expects to accommodate approximately 7,900 patient visits annually, offering services Monday through Friday, with hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on weekends).
