Meet Our Thanksgiving Special Luncheon Chef: Juan Torres
Born in Acapulco and raised in California, Chef Juan carries a rich legacy of cooking passed down through generations of strong women in his family. With a deep respect for his roots, he honors the women who raised him with his catering company, named Miranda Catering, a tribute to his mother’s last name.
For over 17 years, Chef Juan has honed his skills in some of San Francisco’s finest restaurants, studying under renowned chefs and mastering French, Spanish, and Mediterranean cuisines. Now the Executive Chef at Lolinda Steakhouse and El Techo de Lolinda, he brings a unique blend of passion and expertise to every dish he creates.

Nutrition Classes by Vivalon
Gingerbread Cookie Making Class
This 3-part series consists of two in-person classes and an at home assignment to apply what you learned. Learn essential and practical skills for making gingerbread dough, rolling out cookies, making royal icing and decorating using piping bags.
Registration and payment required.
- December 5th: From 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Learn the essentials and practical skills for mixing cookie dough and rolling out cookie dough to cut with cookie cutters.
- At Home: Put your skills to the test and roll your dough and bake your cookies.
- December 12th: From 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Return to Vivalon to make royal icing and decorate your cookies.

With nearly 14 years of culinary expertise, Baptiste Pierru brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to community impact. Originating from France, his culinary journey spans diverse kitchens in London and the U.S. His foray into community service at Sunrise Senior Living and Guide Dogs for the Blind ignited a passion for nonprofit work. At Vivalon, Baptiste, now the Nutrition Programs Manager, leads the charge in establishing a robust nutrition program at the Vivalon Café. His collaborative efforts with Community Action Marin reflect a shared commitment to serving vulnerable populations. Baptiste’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for Vivalon’s members aligns seamlessly with his culinary passion, making him a valuable asset in the organization’s mission of promoting healthy aging and overall well-being.

Yes you may! Take-out meals are made-to-order based on the menu of the day. Please note: we do not have online ordering. Orders can be placed and picked up in the café.
Currently, we are extending our special member price of $8 per meal to Vivalon members, regardless of age or disability status. Non-member price is $15 per meal.
