Falls Prevention
More than a quarter of Americans over age 65 experience a fall each year.
Improving strength and balance today can help you maintain your independence tomorrow, manage fears, and reduce fall-related injuries.
Classes and evidence-based workshops at Vivalon can help you build and maintain your strength, balance, and confidence to prevent falls.
Understand why falls happen and how you can prevent them to reduce fears and increase your activity level through this evidence-based program.
- 8-week series, once per week for 2 hours
- Learn how to set and reach goals and make small changes in your home to prevent falls

Weekly on Mondays, 1:30 – 2:30pm
This class focuses on classical ballet movement and exercises for strength, balance, mobility and coordination, emotional well-being and creative expression. This class aims to help older adults develop stronger bodies, greater confidence and independence, and also a sense of both physical and emotional balance. No prior experience is necessary.

Weekly on Tuesday and Thursday, November 19 – January 16, 11:00am – 12:00pm
Discover how QiGong can be a powerful tool for falls prevention, helping you move with confidence as well as enhance mobility, balance, and confidence. This session combines breathwork, mindfulness, and intention to support mind-body-spirit harmony. Gentle standing exercises and weight-shifting movements strengthen stability, improve mobility, and reduce stress. Chairs are available for support, ensuring a safe, accessible environment for all.

Experience remarkable benefits with this ancient martial art—improved balance, flexibility, and heart health. This evidence-based program consists of two 1-hour weekly sessions for 8 consecutive weeks. Drop ins are welcome at any time during the 8-week series.

The Vial of Life packet is a form where you can enter important healthcare information in case of an emergency. You will also learn about your rights in a hospital, especially your right to a safe discharge and how to appeal a discharge if you’re not ready.
Workshop 2: April 17 | Completing Your Advance Healthcare Directive Thursday
Advance Healthcare Directives share important medical choices should you be unable to speak regarding your medical care, end of life issues, etc. You will be guided through a simple form to address the most important questions so you are prepared and protected.

In this 8-week program, physical therapist Krissy Waller, DPT will guide you through a holistic set of health topics to develop new habits with tools and support to encourage healthy aging. Includes free individual appointments for additional support.

Movement
Weekly on Wednesdays, 1:00 – 2:00pm
This class combines yoga with the benefits of weight training. The added weight builds muscle, bone density and core stability. Jane Rivera has received her 500-hour Yoga Certification from Sherri Baptiste. Join Jane for an hour of breath-based movement. Bring attention to posture and improve balance. This class is open to all levels.

Get out your Yoga mat and join class every Wednesday morning at 9:00am from the comfort of your home via Zoom. This class is offered to all levels, even if it is your first class. We all modify to accommodate what is going on in our bodies. Our students range in age from 60 to 90+. We often use light handheld weights in class to give a boost of resistance to our training. This is your choice. My priorities in class are building core strength, balance work, stretching, and inner reflection.
