A Season of Thanks: Gratitude from Our Vivalon Community

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors this Thanksgiving, we are reminded of the countless ways gratitude shows up at Vivalon—through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, meals shared, rides given, classes taught, and moments of connection that brighten someone’s day.

Every corner of our community is touched by people who care deeply. This season, we asked members, volunteers, partners, staff, and riders to share what they are grateful for. Their words reflect the heart of Vivalon: compassion, belonging, and the power of human connection.

Gratitude from Those We Serve

Our programs exist because of the people who walk through our doors, call for support, or welcome our drivers to their homes. Their courage, resilience, and joy inspire us every day.

“I constantly pray for the people who support Vivalon, and thank them. I want all the blessings that they have given to me and others to be available for generations, because I have never seen anything like this. Vivalon is a blessing to me and to the world.”
Valeria, Falls Prevention Program participant

“Finding this community, along with the support and dedication of the programs team, has been life-altering for me.”
Vivalon member

“Being with others, doing joyful activities, and encouraging each other is the best medicine.”
Vivalon member

“My mom isn’t only getting meals—some days she’s surprised with a little bouquet of flowers or a thoughtful card. Those gestures make her feel truly seen and special. It means the world to her, and to me. Thank you, Vivalon. I am deeply grateful.”
Daughter of Meals on Wheels recipient

“When I pulled a whole and hefty chicken from the bag, one grandchild screamed, the other one cried, my daughter was speechless for the first time in her life and I was filled with happiness, surprise and awe! Your brown bags bring much more than food!”
Brown Bag Pantry recipient

“CarePool means the world to me. It’s an integral part of my life. I don’t know what I would do without it.”
Cecile, CarePool rider

“I am grateful for the warm welcoming staff who are helpful and informative without being overwhelming!”
Alexandria Vitomski, Tai Chi and Zumba participant

“I’m grateful for all the volunteers and fabulous food—thank you!”
Matelina Rice, Vivalon member

Gratitude from Our Partners

Vivalon doesn’t do this work alone. We are lifted by partners across Marin who share our commitment to safety, wellness, and dignity.

“The fire department often encounters people at risk of falls. Having preventative resources like Vivalon in our community allows us to refer people to valuable resources so that they can stay safe, independent and healthy.”
Jason Hatfield, Battalion Chief, Emergency Medical Services, San Rafael Fire Department

“Vivalon creates community. Every time I’ve been there I feel a sense of belonging.”
Lisa Isley, Nursing student, Dominican University

Gratitude from Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Vivalon. They show up with compassion—and often discover unexpected joy along the way.

“I’m so glad I chose to deliver meals as I have thoroughly enjoyed forming relationships with my wonderful and unique clients and look forward to seeing them every week.”
Martha Giblas, Meals on Wheels Volunteer

“Grateful to be able to share the gift of yoga to seniors at no cost to them. Grateful for the leadership of Vivalon that brought us this beautiful building!”

— Jane Rivera Yoga Teacher

“I am very pleased and thankful for what Vivalon is doing for our seniors. I look forward to volunteering at the Food Pantry as long as God gives me the strength to do so.”

— Doris McKee Brown Bag Pantry Volunteer

“I enjoy connecting with the clients, chatting with them each week and hearing about what is new with them. I love knowing that I am doing something that is helping folks who are in need.”

— Bill Lawler Meals on Wheels Volunteer

“I’m just personally so thankful that Vivalon has given me a chance to reengage with people. As a teacher it’s as much about what it does for me. They’re actually helping me. Every time I show up, I’m receiving so much more than I’m giving, and that’s so corny, but it’s so true.”

— Tara Sotter A Matter of Balance Instructor

Gratitude from Our Drivers

Drivers are often the connection, the conversation, and the care someone needs that day.

“I just want to give back to the community. I have wonderful people waiting for me. I like to bring happiness and joy to people and I enjoy coming to work every day.”

Sara, Driver

“I am so grateful to work with a company that is so recognized and awarded for supporting my community. It’s my honor to serve our clients!”
Jonathan, Driver

“As drivers, we develop relationships with people, and we continue the dialogue for years. I feel honored to be in dialogue with my riders. It’s a pleasure and an honor to be part of their day.”
Dan, Driver

Gratitude from Our Staff

Behind the scenes and on the front lines, Vivalon staff members work with heart.

“My coworkers are my family.”
Efrain Santamaria, Resident Service Coordinator

“I’m deeply grateful for the amazing people I work with and the meaningful mission of Vivalon. Being part of this team fills me with pure happiness and purpose, knowing we’re making a meaningful impact in our community.”
Sara Saeidi, Vivalon staff member

“I’m grateful for the camaraderie; that everyone I work with supports each other.”
Althea Boxley, Vivalon staff member

With Gratitude, From All of Us

These voices remind us why we exist: to nourish, uplift, and connect older adults so they can thrive with health, purpose, and belonging.

To everyone who gives, volunteers, participates, advocates, or simply spreads kindness—thank you. You make Vivalon a place of warmth and community, not only during the holidays, but all year long.

From our Vivalon family to yours, we wish you a joyful, peaceful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving.
