Let’s Flip the Script on Aging
Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation in observing Older Americans Month (OAM)—a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the contributions and diverse experiences of older adults. This year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” invites us to challenge outdated stereotypes and embrace a more empowering, inclusive view of growing older.
At Vivalon, we see this spirit come alive every day. Whether it’s dancing in a fitness class, learning new technology, exploring creative outlets like art or music, jumping into a volunteer role, teaching a class, or sharing cultural perspectives, our members are proving that aging is a time of growth, connection, and vitality.
We are committed to supporting older adults in walking their most vibrant, connected paths of longevity—because we know that aging can be powerful, joyful, and full of purpose when we do it together. “Since stepping into my role at Vivalon this month, I’ve been deeply inspired by the people who make this organization so special,” said Kaushik Roy, Vivalon’s new CEO. “The people I’ve met here bring an incredible range of experiences, cultures, and perspectives to our community. They’re not only staying active and creative—they’re leading the way in showing us how vibrant and meaningful this stage of life can be.”
To mark this special month, we’re proud to host Dr. Tracey Gendron, internationally recognized gerontologist and author of Ageism Unmasked. In her engaging and eye-opening talk, “Ageism Unmasked,” Dr. Gendron will challenge commonly held beliefs about aging and share powerful insights on how we can overcome age bias in our communities and within ourselves. Join us for this talk with Dr. Gendron on Wednesday, May 14 from 2:00-3:00 pm. Click here to learn more.
As always, Vivalon is committed to offering programs that support healthy aging for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Stay tuned for more events and activities as we celebrate Older Americans Month throughout May. Let’s keep flipping the script on aging—together.
