Continuing the Conversation
Last week, Vivalon’s Healthy Aging Campus was filled with people learning, moving, asking questions, trying something new, and taking steps toward greater strength and confidence.
Falls Prevention Awareness Week brought our community together for classes, fall risk assessments, practical demonstrations, and conversations with local experts, all centered on one idea: falls are not an inevitable part of aging, and there are things we can do to reduce our risk and keep moving forward with confidence.
Take a look back at some of our favorite moments from an incredible week and learn more about what happened.
Whether you joined us in person, tuned in online, or weren’t able to participate, you can catch up on two of the week’s biggest conversations below.

Watch: Knowledge is Balance
A Community Conversation on Fall Risks, Recovery & Prevention
What do we know about falls right here in Marin?
Bria Larson, MPH, of Marin County Department of Health and Human Services shared findings from a three-year research and analysis project examining falls across Marin County. San Rafael Battalion Chief Jason Hatfield brought us to the moment first responders arrive after a fall, and Jessica Lacanlale, MSN, RN, PHN, of MarinHealth shared the hospital and trauma perspective.
Together, they gave us a rare look at falls across the continuum—from countywide trends, to emergency response, to hospital care—and what we can learn from that data and experience.

Watch: Falls From the Front Line
Four Perspectives on Prevention, Recovery & What Comes Next
What can a geriatrician, pharmacist, podiatrist, and physical therapist teach us about preventing falls?
Experts from MarinHealth and Kaiser Permanente explored the many factors that can influence fall risk and recovery, from medications and foot health to overall health, strength, balance, and rehabilitation.
Moderated by Kris Rebillot of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, the conversation offered practical information for anyone interested in staying active and confident—or supporting someone they love.
